Nazeem Lowe
Barefoot Teacher was founded by Nazeem in 2006. A former schoolteacher, museum developer, entrepreneur and activist (he was among thousands of fighters imprisoned on Robben Island during the Apartheid era), Nazeem has worked in social development projects for almost thirty years. Barefoot Teacher was the logical outcome of years of reflecting on communication in relation to the non-profit sectors in which he worked.
Nazeem has degrees in English, has completed the senior management programme at the University of Stellenbosch (USB), and has undergone project management training in South Africa, Zambia and Sweden. He has many years of experience of managing publications, as well as copywriting, copy-editing and proofreading experience.
Kariema Lowe
Kariema has happily spent her entire career developing fundraising and CRM capacity at universities and non-governmental organisations. She has particular expertise in alumni relations, database management, fundraising and ‘friend-raising’.
In addition to running the ‘back office’ of Barefoot Teacher, she is developing a number of Barefoot Teacher projects outside the field of communications, which are focused on building the long-term sustainability of participating NGOs.
